My Substack is a bit like a commonplace book of old. A bit of everything. The red thread here is me, and so I think I need to explain a little about who I am. I am Melanie, 49, live in the Midlands, but am originally from Germany. Married and have one kid. For a long time, this has been the defining part, like a business card, I would hand out and whilst these things are important and true, there is so much more to me.

In 2021, I was diagnosed with ADHD. It changed my life not because suddenly was better or even because it was a shock. It was like someone had taken the blinders from my eyes and I suddenly from one moment to the next understood all my life and my decisions, why certain things were hard and why others come so easy to me.

All my life, I tried to fit into a neurotypical world. Even just 2 years, ago, I would have been here on Substack trying to find a niche to write about. And inevitably getting bored with it.

So this Commonplace way of blogging is me bringing in all aspects of myself. Telling myself that I am the niche of multitudes. And if that last sentence makes as much sense to you as it does to me, I would love for you to subscribe.
